VKC 50th Anniversary Community Celebration—May 29

On Friday, May 29, the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) will celebrate 50 years as a research center dedicated to opening doors and transforming lives of children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Tim Shriver, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO of Special Olympics, will share “Lessons in What Matters” at the Center’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, 3 p.m. in the Rotunda of the Wyatt Center on the Peabody campus of Vanderbilt University. The community is invited. At the reception which follows, Dr. Shriver will sign copies of his recently published book Fully Alive: Discovering What Matters Most. Space is limited; registration (free of cost) is requested.

Neuroscience and Education 2015 Summer Symposium

Neuroscience and Education: The Connection—June 4-5

This Symposium will be held Thursday-Friday, June 4-5, at Currey Ingram Academy, 6544 Murray Lane in Brentwood, Tennessee. The Symposium is for educators and other professionals to hear the latest brain research as it relates to education and to learn the latest-evidence-based strategies for classroom implementation. Topics will include executive function, central auditory processing disorder, attention deficit disorders, brain plasticity, anxiety, language-based learning, and more. Nationally renowned plenary speakers will be Martha Bridge Denckla, M.D., Research Scientist and Director of the Developmental Cognitive Neurology Clinic at the Kennedy Krieger Institute; and Mark Wallace, Ph.D., Director of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute and a Vanderbilt Kennedy Center investigator.

The Symposium is sponsored by the Annette Eskind Institute of Learning at Currey Ingram Academy, the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, the Vanderbilt Brain Institute, and Vanderbilt Peabody College. Registration (includes breakfast and lunch both days) is $175 for professionals, $150 each for groups of 5 professionals or more, and $100 for students.
